A woman in her 70s has been stabbed at a subway station in Kobe City, western Japan. Police arrested a female suspect at the scene.

Police say a passer-by reported the stabbing at Sannomiya Station shortly after noon on Wednesday.

Officers found a woman in her 70s on the floor near the ticket gates, with stab wounds to her back. She was reportedly conscious when she was taken to a hospital.

Police arrested a 49-year-old woman who was near the scene of the crime on suspicion of attempted murder.
She is reportedly remaining silent in police questioning.
