Taiwan&#039;s president has returned from the US, but her talks with American officials aren&#039;t over just yet. Tsai Ing-wen angered Beijing by speaking to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy Wednesday in California. Now, she&#039;s set to meet US lawmakers on her home turf.
                
A bipartisan delegation visited Taiwan&#039;s legislature on Friday. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul said they plan to speed up weapons deliveries to deter any aggression.
                
Tsai has urged Beijing to show restraint in its reaction to her US stopover. But it has already taken retaliatory steps.
Beijing imposed new sanctions on Hsiao Bi-khim, the head of Taiwan&#039;s representative office in the US.
                
It also sanctioned a think tank that invited Tsai to an event, as well as the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. It hosted Tsai&#039;s meeting with the US House Speaker.
                
But Sophia University professor Maeshima Kazuhiro says Beijing&#039;s response this time pales in comparison to its reaction when former speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan last year.
                
But Maeshima points out Beijing has become more aggressive in recent years. He says Japan could play an important role in easing tensions. The most important point is how to strengthen Japanese diplomacy and prevent Chinese aggression toward Taiwan.
                
This week, the government&#039;s top spokesperson said Japan was closely monitoring the situation.
He said peace in the Taiwan Strait is crucial not just for Japan but the entire world, and any solution must be achieved through dialogue.
