The organizer of the Expo 2025 in Osaka, western Japan, is planning to sell same-day tickets in front of the venue's entrances every day in principle. As the opening of the event in April approaches, preparations are now in the final stages. More than 7.8 million advance tickets had been sold as of February 12, about half of the target of 14 million. Some people say the ways available to buy tickets are complex. In response, the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition is working to introduce same-day tickets that visitors can purchase at the venue. Sources familiar with the matter say the organizer is making arrangements for the tickets to be sold at the information centers in front of the east and west gates of the Expo. They say the tickets would come in three types: one-day, weekday and night passes, and that they would likely be sold from 9 a.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m. on weekends and national holidays. The sources say that on days when congestion is expected, the organizer may delay ticket sales, or not sell them. They add that the organizer would announce those moves on its website in the evening of the day before congestion is expected. The organizer will soon make public its decision on same-day ticket sales. To prevent congestion, the organizer will urge visitors to buy electronic tickets in advance that allow them to choose the date and time of their visit, as well as paper tickets sold at convenience stores and other places.
