Black box of Japan Coast Guard plane recovered, says investigator NHK

An investigator with the Japan Transport Safety Board says officials have recovered the black box of the Japan Coast Guard plane that collided on Tuesday with a Japan Airlines aircraft at Tokyo's Haneda Airport.

Fujiwara Takuya told reporters on Wednesday that investigators had examined the fuselages of both aircraft and their scattered debris.

He said they will now attempt to retrieve data from the recovered device.

The black box of the JAL plane has reportedly yet to be found.

Fujiwara also said investigators had found signs of impact on the fuselage of each aircraft. He said officials could not yet confirm whether this was due to the two planes colliding.

He said investigators would continue studying the wreckage on site until late afternoon Wednesday.
