Japanese infectious disease experts eye Asian info-sharing network NHK

Japanese health experts plan to set up an information-sharing network with other Asian countries and regions to prepare for a possible pandemic like COVID-19.

The National Institute of Infectious Diseases will collaborate with India, Vietnam and Taiwan.

Deputy Director-General Matano Tetsuro stressed the need for a global response to a wide range of pathogens.

He also said Japan will lead efforts to establish a sustainable and expandable network.

The countries involved will jointly develop methods for testing pathogens including bacteria, viruses and parasites.

They also plan to develop human resources for monitoring infectious diseases.
