Japanese health experts plan to set up an information-sharing network with other Asian countries and regions to prepare for a possible pandemic like COVID-19. The National Institute of Infectious Diseases will collaborate with India, Vietnam and Taiwan. Deputy Director-General Matano Tetsuro stressed the need for a global response to a wide range of pathogens. He also said Japan will lead efforts to establish a sustainable and expandable network. The countries involved will jointly develop methods for testing pathogens including bacteria, viruses and parasites. They also plan to develop human resources for monitoring infectious diseases.
