Japanese tourist killed, 12 hurt in Malaysia bus accident NHK

One Japanese tourist was killed and 12 others were injured after a bus and a truck collided on an expressway in western Malaysia.

The travel agency that arranged the tour says the bus was carrying 11 Japanese tourists as well as a local driver and guide. The crash happened in Perak State on Thursday.

The company says a Japanese woman in her 70s was killed in the accident. It says four other tourists have been hospitalized and are conscious.

The company says the bus was heading to Cameron Highlands, one of Malaysia's most popular tourist destinations.

JTB President and CEO Yamakita Eijiro said, "We are committed to supporting customers and their families affected by the accident."

The site is one of the main expressways in Malaysia connecting the northern part of the country with the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Local police are investigating the cause of the accident. They believe the bus may have crashed into the rear of the truck.
