A Ukrainian survey has shown that almost half of respondents believe that US President Donald Trump's call for an early end to Russia's invasion could bring peace in Ukraine closer. The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology polled 985 people from December 2 to 17, following Trump's victory in the US presidential election. The results show 45 percent of respondents believe that Trump's victory brings peace in Ukraine closer. Eighteen percent think his victory does not affect the situation, while 14 percent said peace is becoming more distant. The survey also asked whether Ukraine could count on a fair peace. Thirty-one percent said they believe it will be mostly or completely unfair for Ukraine, while twenty-three percent said peace will be mostly or completely fair for Ukraine. The survey found that 29 percent of respondents believe there will be both fulfillment of Ukraine's demands and concessions to Russia, and that it is difficult to say which will be greater. In its analysis, the institute said that Trump's victory "does not cause euphoria or depression among Ukrainians." It added that people's expectations are rather "cautious and expectant, with perhaps some restrained optimism or at least a sense of bringing 'freshness' to the situation with the prospects of war."
