A team of US doctors says a genetically modified pig kidney transplanted into a brain-dead man has continued to function normally for more than one month.
                
The team led by surgeons at New York University released the findings on Wednesday.
                
The surgeons transplanted the pig kidney into the 57-year-old man in July with the consent of his family. The organ was genetically engineered to prevent rejection after transplantation.
                
The team says this is the third time that a gene-edited pig kidney has been implanted into a human, and marks the longest that one has continued to function.
