The Czech Republic's top legislative official has visited Taiwan, leading the largest-ever delegation. The country has diplomatic ties with China but recently has been seeking better ties with Taiwan. Marketa Adamova, the speaker of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, flew aboard a Czech Air Force plane into an airport in Taipei on Saturday. She was accompanied by a large delegation of more than 150 lawmakers, senior government officials and businesspeople. Adamova and her delegation were welcomed at the airport by Taiwan's Parliament Speaker, You Si-kun, and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu. Upon arriving the airport, she told reporters that her country and Taiwan share the value of democracy and freedom. She expressed hope to deepen bilateral cooperation in the semiconductor sector. Adamova is scheduled to meet Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and other officials. She is also scheduled to address Taiwan's Parliament, and attend a meeting to discuss economic cooperation. Recent trips to Taiwan by other Czech Republic leaders include Senate President, Milos Vystrcil, who visited there in 2020. President Petr Pavel held rare telephone talks with Tsai after he won the presidential election in January.
