Myanmar&#039;s political party headed by ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi has strongly condemned the military&#039;s announcement that the party will be dissolved.
                
The military reported on state media on Tuesday that the National League for Democracy will be invalidated as it failed to meet the deadline to register for the general election.
                
On Wednesday, the NLD said in a statement that the military council violated laws and has no legitimacy to represent the public. It went on to say the election commission under the military council &quot;has neither the right to dissolve nor the right to approve the lawfully established political parties.&quot;
                
The NLD said 1,235 party members have been arrested so far, and that 26 of them have died during interrogations and in prisons since the military seized power in the 2021 coup.
                
It said the NLD is &quot;a political party that only carries out the public interests according to the decision of the people,&quot; adding, &quot;As long as there are people, the party will exist.&quot;
