Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has been facing her first no-confidence motion in the parliament since taking office last year. Opposition lawmakers are accusing her, a daughter of former leader Thaksin Shinawatra, of prioritizing her family over Thai citizens. The two-day debate has been covering a wide range of issues. These include Paetongtarn's capabilities as a leader and the government's economic policies. On Monday, the opposition People's Party leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut attacked Paetongtarn for serving her family's interests. He said, "This government was formed and moved forward by creating a deal that exchanges the country for benefits for the Shinawatra family." The opposition also alleged Paetongtarn avoided taxes by maneuvering the transfer of shares with promissory notes. She stressed all procedures were done in an appropriate manner. The no-confidence vote will take place on Wednesday. It is widely expected that Paetongtarn will survive the vote as her ruling coalition holds a majority in the Lower House.
