Snow may accumulate in Kanto-Koshin region, including central Tokyo NHK

Snow may accumulate in the Kanto-Koshin region, including central Tokyo, through early Sunday morning. Weather authorities are calling on people in these areas to take extra care for traffic disruptions caused by snow and icy roads.

The Japan Meteorological Agency says snow is falling in the southern Kanto region, including Tokyo's 23 wards and surrounding prefectures. It says this is due to a cold air mass as well as a low-pressure system moving eastward along the southern coast of the main island of Honshu.

The agency forecasts heavy snow mainly in mountainous areas of Kanto-Koshin, including flatlands, through Sunday.

In the 24 hours through Sunday evening, up to 10 centimeters of snow is expected in mountainous areas of northern Kanto, Koshin and areas from Hakone to Tama and Chichibu.

As much as 8 centimeters is likely in flatlands of northern Kanto and 5 centimeters in flatlands of southern Kanto. Tokyo's 23 wards may have up to 3 centimeters.

Weather officials are urging people to keep updated with the latest weather and traffic information.
