Israeli attacks intensify near hospital in southern Gaza NHK

Civilian casualties are mounting in the Gaza Strip as Israeli forces expand their offensive in the southern part of the enclave.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society said on Thursday that Israeli shelling near a hospital in Khan Younis had left 10 people dead and at least 21 others injured.

It also said 31 people had been killed in artillery bombardments by the Israeli military in the same area the previous day. The hospital shelters as many as 14,000 displaced people.

The organization issued a statement condemning Israel's attacks and calling on the international community to provide urgent protection for the hospital.

Health authorities in Gaza say the death toll in the enclave has risen to 21,320.

Some Israeli media outlets reported on Wednesday that Israel and the United States presented Hamas with a new proposal for hostage releases.

The report said the proposal called for a temporary ceasefire and the release of hostages. It also said Israeli troops would withdraw from densely populated areas in Gaza. But Hamas reportedly rejected the deal.
