Senior Japanese and Ukrainian officials have agreed to work together to promote the development of digital technology in their countries.
Japanese Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Matsumoto Takeaki held talks with Ukrainian Deputy Minister for Digital Transformation Valeriya Ionan on Sunday.
Ionan was invited to the meeting of digital and tech ministers of the Group of Seven nations in the city of Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
During the G7 meeting, she explained the situation of Ukraine's digital infrastructure amid the ongoing Russian invasion.
Matsumoto told Ionan that universal values such as freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law must be protected. He said he hopes the G7 nations will work together to achieve that aim.
Ionan responded that Ukraine is grateful for the different kinds of support from Japan. She said Japan is one of the most advanced nations in terms of innovation and Ukraine seeks a range of knowledge from the country.
Matsumoto said Japan and Ukraine can cooperate in research on digital technology, and he will keep in touch with Ionan to explore concrete ways to work together.
