Convenience store sales in Japan rose for the 11th straight month in January as the recovery from the pandemic continued. The Japan Franchise Association says sales came to 850 billion yen, or about 6.3 billion dollars. That's up 3.6 percent in yen terms from the same month last year. Rice balls, deep-fried foods and soft drinks sold well. It was the first January in three years that there were no restrictions on social outings. The association says that resulted in stronger sales at outlets in tourist destinations, airports and business districts.
