The Indonesian arm of Daihatsu Motor has resumed domestic vehicle shipments days after a safety scandal came to light at the Japanese automaker. Daihatsu revealed on Wednesday that 174 irregularities had been found in data for 64 different models. The firm announced a halt to all shipments at home and abroad. On Friday, Indonesian subsidiary Astra Daihatsu Motor said it had resumed shipments after local authorities deemed the vehicles are safe. Daihatsu's parent company, Toyota Motor, has also reportedly resumed shipments of small cars jointly developed in Indonesia. The two automakers said they will continue to discuss a resumption of shipments in other countries with relevant authorities. Daihatsu also has production bases in Malaysia and Thailand. Toyota Motor Chairman Toyoda Akio apologized on Friday for Daihatsu's improper vehicle testing. Speaking on a trip to Thailand, he said, "As the parent company, Toyota will do its utmost to help Daihatsu regain trust as soon as possible."
