The United Nations says the conflict has left at least 1,200 people dead, and forced more than 5.8 million people to take refuge within Sudan or in other countries.

Many foreign nationals, including Japanese people, have been forced to evacuate. That is disrupting international aid activities.

Countries neighboring Sudan, such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia, have been urging both sides to agree to a ceasefire or sit down for peace talks. But it appears that the two sides will keep fighting.
