Rescue crews searching for a submersible that disappeared in the North Atlantic found a "debris field" on Thursday in the area where the sub went missing. They fear that all five people on board have died.
Search teams have been looking for the submersible since it went missing on Sunday. The sub had set out on a tour of the ruins of the Titanic.
US Coast Guard officials say a remotely controlled deep-sea vehicle deployed by a Canadian ship found the debris on the ocean floor. They spotted five "major" pieces they believe are from the sub.
US Coast Guard First District Commander John Mauger said, "The debris is consistent with the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber. Upon this determination, we immediately notified the family."
Mauger says search crews will continue their operations. He added that experts are still working to come up with a more-complete timeline of the event.
