Tuesday marked 1,000 days since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine. People in Kyiv expressed anger at the continuing civilian casualties and hope for peace as soon as possible.
                
People visited Independence Square in central Kyiv where national flags bearing the names of fallen soldiers have been erected. Visitors placed flowers to mourn the soldiers.
                
A woman said she lost her son in the fighting, and that she feels sadness, pain and horror at the reality that a huge number of Ukrainians are dying every day.
                
She said people in the country want to remind the world that war is terrible and also want the conflict to stop as soon as possible.
                
Another woman said she thinks most Ukrainians are exhausted. But she added people are united in hoping every day for a quick victory.
                
Russian forces have continued to attack Ukraine with missiles and drones.
                
Authorities in Kyiv say the capital has been hit by more than 1,600 drones and over 900 missiles over the past 1,000 days.
                
Ukrainian officials say a Russian drone attack struck a dormitory of an educational institution in the northeastern region of Sumy on Monday, killing nine people, including a child.
                
Ukraine&#039;s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed determination to fight, saying on social media that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants the war to continue.
