AI in spotlight at Tokyo Game Show NHK

Artificial intelligence is in the spotlight at the Tokyo Game Show that began on Thursday.

A record 985 companies and organizations are taking part in the annual event. More than half are from abroad.

Exhibitors are showcasing a big lineup of new video games and related products. One of them uses AI for advanced image processing.

Generative AI is a key feature for many new games.
One venture firm says the technology has helped to improve work efficiency in character design and other aspects of development.

But it says final checks by humans are needed to avoid duplicating already-existing designs.

Shin Kiyoshi, CEO of AI Frog Interactive, said, "We use AI as a tool to bring our ideas to life, and that provides higher-quality and more enjoyable content for our customers."

The Tokyo Game Show runs through Sunday.
