Japanese and American business leaders have called for increased exports of US liquefied natural gas to the Indo-Pacific region to help enhance energy security. The appeal to the governments of the two countries came in a joint statement released after the annual US-Japan Business Conference on Wednesday in Washington. Sawada Jun, Chairman of Japan-US Business Council said "Business leaders of the two countries should take more realistic steps to achieve low-carbon society." The Chairman of US-Japan Business Council said new LNG terminals should be built on the West Coast and the Gulf Coast to boost export capacity. Douglas Peterson said "One of the most important planks of the statement we put out today is to promote for the US government to work faster on permitting approvals so this can become a reality." The joint statement says the international economic order is ''faltering." It says that makes it important to have fair rules-based governance to achieve a sustainable society. The business leaders also urged Washington to remove tariffs based on what they call an ''overly broad application of national security policies."
