Israeli military officials say they have detained about 70 Hamas militants in an attack on a hospital in the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. Many civilians are taking shelter at the facility. Israeli forces stormed the Nasser Hospital on Thursday in what they say was a search for Hamas fighters who had been hiding there. They say they will try to find any bodies of dead hostages taken by Hamas. They also say they are providing supplies to ensure patients can still receive treatment. But health authorities in Gaza say five have died due to a causes including a lack of oxygen. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant hailed the operation, saying about 70 terrorists had been arrested. Authorities in Gaza said on Friday that 112 people had died during the past 24 hours, bringing the overall death toll from the conflict to 28,775. In Israel on Friday, a man reportedly opened fire at a bus stop along a highway in a southern town. Local media say two people died and four others were wounded. Some reports say the alleged shooter comes from a refugee camp in East Jerusalem housing a large number of Palestinians. Hamas released a statement saying the attack was "a natural response to the war of extermination committed by the criminal occupation army." Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the incident as a terrorist attack. And he vowed to continue fighting until "we restore the security and quiet for all citizens of Israel."
