Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has indicated that he is willing to mend his relationship with US President Donald Trump following their spat in the White House. Zelenskyy gave an interview with Fox News after his meeting with Trump on Friday. Asked whether he would offer Trump an apology, Zelenskyy said: "We have to be very open and very honest. And I'm not sure that we did something bad." He said he visited President Trump because Ukraine wants peace. He added that the deal on minerals is the first step to security guarantees and it's "meant for the peace, closer to peace." Asked whether he thinks his relationship with Trump can be salvaged, Zelenskyy replied, "of course," pointing to the historical and strong relations between the two countries' people. Trump's pool reporters say Trump watched the interview. Meanwhile, members of Trump's Republican Party have voiced support for the president over the heated argument. Senator Lindsey Graham, who has been one of the few Republicans who called for support for Ukraine, described the meeting a "complete, utter disaster." He said, "What I saw in the Oval Office was disrespectful, and I don't know if we can ever do business with Zelenskyy again." He added that Zelenskyy "either needs to resign and send somebody over that we can do business with or he needs to change." For their part, the Democrats are calling on Trump to side with Ukraine rather than Russia. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a social media post: "Trump and Vance are doing Putin's dirty work. Senate Democrats will never stop fighting for freedom and democracy." In a statement, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries blasted the meeting as appalling. He said it will "only serve to further embolden Vladimir Putin, a brutal dictator." He added, "We should stand with Ukraine until victory is won."
