Major US firms ask employees to return to office NHK

Some major US companies are reviewing their work-from-home policy due to declines in coronavirus infections in the country.

E-commerce giant Amazon announced in February that employees will be required to work in the office at least three days a week starting in May.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that in-person work strengthens bonds among team members and increases efficiency.

Major entertainment firm Walt Disney Company has told employees who are now on hybrid schedules that combine in-office and remote work to start coming to the office four days a week from March.

Disney says, "Nothing can replace the ability to connect, observe, and create with peers that comes from being physically together, nor the opportunity to grow professionally by learning from leaders and mentors."

Social network service firm Twitter has asked employees to work at the office five days a week.

But employees at Amazon and Disney have sent petitions to their companies, asking them to reconsider their return-to-office policies.
