EU convenes foreign ministers' meeting in Kyiv in show of support for Ukraine NHK

The European Union announced on Monday that foreign ministers of its member countries have gathered in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv to convene a meeting.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell told reporters that the ministers will discuss support for Ukraine and show the bloc's unwavering commitment to Kyiv.

EU leaders are due to debate in December whether to allow Ukraine to begin membership negotiations.

Observers say holding a foreign ministers' meeting in Kyiv is apparently meant to show support for Ukraine's reform efforts.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called the meeting a historic event, saying that it was taking place for the first time outside current EU borders, but also within its future borders.
