Cambodia's prime minister has met Ukraine's foreign minister. Dmytro Kuleba is now in the Southeast Asian country, which will host the upcoming ASEAN summit and related talks over the next few days. Their meeting came on Wednesday in the capital Phnom Penh, ahead of a visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov this weekend. Kuleba expressed gratitude for Cambodia's firm stance against the war in Ukraine. Cambodia supported a UN resolution condemning Russia's invasion. Hun Sen conveyed his hope that "all parties concerned would be able to find a peaceful solution to the war" so that Ukraine could regain peace and stability. Kuleba signed a Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia on Thursday. The peace pact established in 1976 is a legally-binding code for inter-state relations in the region and beyond. It bans subversion, and pledges non-interference in internal affairs and a peaceful resolution of any disputes. The pact had 49 signatories as of August this year, including the EU, US and Russia as well as 10 ASEAN member states. ASEAN does not have a unified stance on Ukraine. The bloc has refrained from directly condemning Russia, as some member states have deep economic and military ties with Moscow. But Kyiv apparently wants to strengthen ties with the group to seek support from member countries.
