A: Hey! Did you hear about something new regarding nuclear weapons?

B: No, what's up? Tell me!

A: So, a group called Nihon Hidankyo – they represent survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings – they asked Diet members about a treaty to ban nuclear weapons.

B: Wow, that’s important. Did many respond?

A: Not really! Only about 20% answered their questions.

B: Really? That's kind of low. What did they say about Japan joining the treaty?

A: Most of those who answered – around 117 – think Japan *should* sign it! Nobody said we shouldn't.

B: That's good news, right?

A: Mostly! But about 30 said “other.” Some support the Japan-US security alliance. Others are pro-nuclear deterrence.
