Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko had her first meeting with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in the South Korean city of Busan on Saturday.
                
After arriving in the southeastern port for a three-way foreign ministerial meeting with her Chinese and South Korean counterparts, Kamikawa met Wang for the first time since she took office in September.
                
Wang opened the meeting by saying he wants to work with Kamikawa to make the bilateral relations advance on a healthy and correct track.
                
Kamikawa responded that she wants to work closely with Wang to develop bilateral relations in the direction agreed upon in a previous summit.
                
Kamikawa is believed to have asked for the immediate lifting of China&#039;s suspension on Japanese seafood imports and the release of Japanese nationals detained in China.
                
China has banned Japanese seafood imports after Japan started releasing treated and diluted water into the ocean from the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
                
She is also believed to have urged China to remove a buoy placed by China in waters in Japan&#039;s exclusive economic zone.
                
Kamikawa is also thought to have confirmed with Wang that they will promote a mutually beneficial strategic relationship and build constructive and stable bilateral relations through communication.
                
Kamikawa is scheduled to meet her South Korean counterpart Park Jin and attend a three-way foreign ministerial meeting, the first in four years.
                
The ministers are expected to discuss the resumption of a three-way summit.
                
Water used to cool molten fuel at Fukushima Daiichi has been mixing with rain and groundwater. The accumulated water is being treated to remove most radioactive substances, but it still contains tritium.
                
Before releasing the water into the ocean, the plant&#039;s operator dilutes it to reduce tritium levels to about one-seventh of the World Health Organization&#039;s guidance level for drinking water.
