China: Washington requests trade talks but Beijing's stance has not changed NHK

China's foreign ministry says that ahead of tariff talks with the US, Beijing's stance of firmly opposing US abuse of tariffs has not changed.

The two countries will hold trade talks in Switzerland over the coming weekend.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer from the US, and Vice Premier He Lifeng from China will participate in the negotiations. Bessent said the talks will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Lin Jian, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, said on Wednesday that recently the US has repeatedly expressed hope for negotiations, and the upcoming talks will be held at the request of Washington.

Lin also said that the tariff war was launched by the US, and if the country wants to solve the issue through dialogue and negotiations, it should stop threatening and exerting pressure. He added that the US should hold talks based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and benefit.

In the ongoing tariff conflict, the United States and China are imposing additional duties of more than 100 percent against each other.
