US suggests it would recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea, WSJ reports NHK

A US media outlet has reported that Washington proposed a peace plan to Ukraine, including potential US recognition of Russia's annexation of Crimea.



The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that the US administration put forward the plan on Thursday. WSJ said the plan also would exclude Ukraine from joining NATO.



US President Donald Trump said in a social media post on Sunday that he hopes "Russia and Ukraine will make a deal this week."



Meanwhile, Russia's defense ministry said on Monday that Ukraine committed 4,900 violations during the "Easter ceasefire" period, including drone attacks.



Russian President Vladimir Putin had unilaterally declared a 30-hour ceasefire through the end of Sunday.



Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that there were 2,935 violations on the Russian side. He is newly calling on Russia to agree to halt missile and drone strikes on civilian infrastructure for at least 30 days.
