Nongovernmental organizations from around the world have joined hands to organize a demonstration in a corner of the venue where the COP27 climate change conference is underway in Egypt.
                
Dozens of people participated on Wednesday. The demonstrators held up banners calling on governments to stop public finance for fossil fuels. They also chanted slogans calling for a shift to renewable energy.
                
Organizers say Japan, China and South Korea are among the leading countries investing a large amount of public funds in new fossil fuel projects.
                
COP27 host Egypt places strict restrictions on protests, including a ban on activities by NGOs for a certain period.
                
One of the organizers from a Philippine NGO said permission was not given to hold rallies on Monday and Tuesday, when the summit-level meeting took place.
                
But the organizer said the NGOs will continue demonstrations despite restrictions and keep pressure on governments.
