Crimes against Jewish communities have been escalating across Australia. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has defended his government's response to such acts. Police officials revealed on Wednesday they had foiled a potential attack involving a trailer discovered in a Sydney suburb. They said notes listing "Jewish entities" as potential targets were also found along with enough explosives to detonate a large bomb. Israel's foreign minister Gideon Sa'ar condemned the violence and urged Australia to take stronger action against what he calls "almost unchecked antisemitism." Prime Minister Albanese responded on Thursday that there's zero tolerance in Australia for antisemitism. He said "It's designed to create fear and terror in the community, and it will not succeed. Because our community is stronger than the cowards who engage in this sort of activity." The series of attacks have targeted synagogues, Jewish schools, homes, and businesses, including a firebombing that destroyed a synagogue in Melbourne and an arson attack on a childcare center in Sydney. New South Wales police have confirmed the arrest of 191 individuals on 476 charges since the October 7 attacks in Israel in 2023.
