The Japan Coast Guard says two Chinese government ships have entered Japan's territorial waters off the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea. The coast guard is warning the Chinese vessels to leave. Coast guard officials say the two Chinese ships entered Japanese waters off Minamikojima Island one after another around 10:50 a.m. on Saturday. The officials say that as of 11 a.m., one of the ships was about 21 kilometers south-southeast of the island, heading west-northwest within territorial waters. They say the other ship was about 20 kilometers south-southwest of the island, sailing north. This is the 33rd time this year and the first time since November 28 that Chinese government ships have entered Japan's waters off the Senkaku Islands. Japan controls the islands. China and Taiwan claim them. The Japanese government maintains the islands are an inherent part of Japan's territory in terms of history and international law. It says there is no issue of sovereignty to be resolved over them.
