Volcano eruption alert level raised for Tokyo's Miyakejima island NHK

A: Hey there! Guess what's going on?
B: What's up?

A: Seems like Miyakejima, that island south of Tokyo, has been causing some buzz. Japan's weather agency's given it a level-2 warning because of seismic activity around the volcano!
B: Oh really? When was this announced?

A: It happened at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday. They've been seeing seismic stuff under the crater since morning.
B: Wow, that's serious! What does level-2 mean?

A: Well, it's the second-lowest warning level out of 1 to 5. The agency says an eruption might happen and could affect areas near the crater.
B: So people shouldn't go near the crater?

A: Exactly! And if you're around the caldera, stay alert for big lumps of volcanic stuff.
B: That sounds pretty scary. Have there been any eruptions since 2013?

A: Not since then, but recent observations suggest that the ground under the volcano is expanding. It could mean that magma's accumulating beneath.
B: Oh, I remember people had to evacuate in 2000 due to volcanic activity, right?

A: Yes! They were forced to leave then because of ash falls and gas emissions. The island was off-limits for about four and a half years! Hopefully, it won't come to that this time...

Japan's Meteorological Agency has raised its eruption warning alert level for Miyakejima, the volcanic island in the south of Tokyo.

The agency issued a level-2 warning at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, after observing seismic activity beneath the volcano's crater beginning earlier that day.

The level-2 warning is the second-lowest on the scale of 1-5.

The agency says an eruption could occur that would affect areas near the crater.

The warning calls on people to refrain from approaching the crater and that anyone near the caldera should be on alert for large cinders.

Local residents were forced to evacuate the island in 2000 after volcanic activity intensified, causing repeated ash falls and emitting massive amounts of volcanic gases. Conditions on the island prevented residents from returning for about four and a half years.

Eruptions have not occurred on the island since 2013. But recent observations show the ground deep under the volcano is expanding, suggesting the accumulation of magma.
Summary
Japan's Meteorological Agency has issued a level-2 warning for Miyakejima, a volcanic island south of Tokyo. The alert was triggered by seismic activity beneath the volcano's crater at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday. The level-2 warning indicates an increased risk of eruption that could affect areas near
