Members of the media viewed the Japanese government pavilion ahead of the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka, western Japan, for the first time on Sunday. The EXPO is scheduled to run for six months from April 13 through October 13. About 160 countries and territories are due to take part in the event, based on the theme of "Designing Future Society for Our Lives." The two-story Japan Pavilion boasts 13,000 square meters of floor space. It is the largest pavilion at the EXPO. The building will serve as the host nation's base and a guest house for foreign dignitaries. Media personnel were invited to see the pavilion, which is still under construction. It has the theme of "Between Lives". A facility that uses microbes to decompose garbage collected in the expo venue has been installed near the entrance. Biogas from the plant will be used to supply electricity in the pavilion. The Japanese cartoon character Hello Kitty adorns the pavilion. The character is dressed as 32 types of algae, including wakame and hijiki seaweed. It is designed to promote the plants that are expected to be used for fuel and to help address food shortages. Interior furnishing work is still continuing. It is scheduled to be completed at the end of February.
