American IT giants Microsoft and Google parent Alphabet have posted gains in quarterly revenue and profits, partly due to growing demand for artificial intelligence. Both companies reported their financial results for the three months through March on Thursday. Microsoft posted revenue of nearly 61.9 billion dollars, up 17 percent from the same quarter last year. Net profit rose 20 percent to about 21.9 billion dollars. Alphabet's revenue came to about 80.5 billion dollars, a year-on-year gain of 15 percent. Net profit soared 57 percent to about 23.6 billion dollars. Both companies enjoyed brisk revenue from their cloud-based platforms for generative AI. Microsoft is integrating its "Copilot" generative AI program into its suite of software for personal computers. Google is also trying to expand the use of its "Gemini" AI software.
