A: Hey there! Guess what? B: What's up? A: Trump is gonna chat with Putin tomorrow about stopping the fights in Ukraine! B: Oh really? When did they last talk? A: I think it was back in March, but now it's happening at 10 a.m. ET on Monday. B: And what's Putin saying about this proposal for a ceasefire? A: Well, Russia hasn't replied yet, and Ukraine has said they'd be cool with it. But last week's talks didn't bring much progress. B: That's too bad. What about the drone attacks? Anything new on that front? A: Yeah, over 270 drones were launched by Russia yesterday evening! Crazy, right? B: Trump seems hopeful though... anything he said? A: He thinks nothing will move until Putin and him have a chat. And guess what, Putin calls him "Donald"! B: Wow, that's a positive sign, isn't it? Let's hope they can make some progress for Ukraine! US President Donald Trump is to speak to Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone in the coming hours about ending fighting in Ukraine. Trump wrote on social media on Saturday that his call with Putin will take place at 10 a.m. ET on Monday. Their last telephone talks are believed to have been on March 18. Russia has not responded to Trump's proposal for an unconditional ceasefire lasting at least 30 days, which Ukraine has said it would accept. Friday's first direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in about three years in Turkey failed to make headway on the issue. Vladimir Medinsky, a Putin aide who led the Russian delegation in the talks, has defended Russia's continued military operations, saying that negotiations should take place while fighting goes on. From Saturday evening to Sunday, the Russian military launched its largest-ever drone offensive against Ukraine, using over 270 drones. Trump has heightened expectations for Monday's conversation, saying that nothing is going to happen until Putin and he get together. Putin has also expressed his willingness to meet with Trump, calling him by his first name, Donald.
