A spokesperson for Taiwan&#039;s presidential office says the majority of Taiwanese citizens have made it clear they will not accept China&#039;s &quot;one country, two systems&quot; policy.
                
The spokesperson issued a statement after Chinese President Xi Jinping renewed his pledge to achieve what he calls the reunification of Taiwan in his speech at the Communist Party&#039;s National Congress on Sunday.
                
The statement said Taiwan will neither back down on its territory and sovereignty, nor compromise on democracy and freedom.
                
It also said the common perception among Taiwanese people is that an armed clash over the Taiwan Strait will not be an option.
                
Quoting President Tsai Ing-wen&#039;s speech on October 10, the statement said Taiwan is willing to work with China &quot;to find a mutually agreeable arrangement for upholding peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait&quot; provided that &quot;there is rationality, equality, and mutual respect.&quot;
