Report: George Glass under consideration for US ambassador to Japan NHK

CBS News on Saturday quoted sources familiar with the deliberations as saying that US President-elect Donald Trump is likely to pick George Glass to be the US ambassador to Japan.

Glass is known as a major fundraiser for Trump. He served as ambassador to Portugal during Trump's first presidency.

While in the role, Glass criticized China's deepening involvement in Portugal's strategic sectors, including telecom giant Huawei Technologies' cooperation in developing Portugal's communications networks.

The Portuguese president responded that, in Portugal, the representatives are chosen by the Portuguese and they alone decide on their destiny.
