Police in central Japan say a car that caused multiple accidents drove the wrong way for at least 10 kilometers on an expressway on Sunday.



The driver of the small car is still at large one day after the accidents on the Shin-Meishin Expressway. Police are looking for the car and its driver on suspicion of causing hit-and-run accidents.



The blue car is said to have driven in the wrong direction on the expressway's west-bound lanes in the city of Kameyama, Mie Prefecture.



The wrong-way car bumped into two vehicles at around 11 a.m. and caused more collisions as drivers tried to avoid it.



The accidents injured four women in their 40s to 60s.



Police and the expressway operator say eyewitness accounts suggest the car continued to travel in the wrong direction to near the Suzuka parking area, about 10 kilometers to the east.
