Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru has apologized to fellow lawmakers of the main ruling Liberal Democratic Party for the party&#039;s poor performance in July&#039;s Upper House election. He added that he will take responsibility and decide what to do at the appropriate time.
        
                    
                  
Ishiba spoke Tuesday at the LDP&#039;s top decision-making body, the Joint Plenary Meeting of Party Members of Both Houses of the Diet, held at party headquarters in Tokyo.
        
                    
                  
He said that as party president he cannot dodge responsibility for the election outcome. He also said that he has a duty to advance policy, and is not clinging to his post.
        
                    
                  
LDP Secretary-General Moriyama Hiroshi also said he feels deeply responsible for the party&#039;s election performance.
        
                    
                  
He said the key is not to reflect on the loss merely in words but also through actions, while building a system that allows the party to show unity and offer the public a compelling vision for the state&#039;s operation and future.
        
                    
                  
Moriyama said the party now needs to rally its strength for the country and its people, and move forward together.
