Tohoku Electric Power Network says about 13,200 households in Niigata Prefecture were without electricity as of 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, due to the heavy snows that blanketed areas along the Sea of Japan and elsewhere.
They include 4,900 households in Sado City, 3,200 in Kashiwazaki City and 1,900 in Nagaoka City.
The utility says power will be restored in some areas of Nagaoka on Tuesday, but that for most places there is little chance of getting the power back on soon.
