Japan has delivered emergency relief supplies to Vietnam to help with the recovery from Typhoon Yagi. A handover ceremony was held on Sunday at Noibai International Airport in Hanoi, with officials from the Japanese Embassy and the Vietnamese government taking part. The supplies, including water purifiers, are being provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The typhoon hit northern Vietnam on September 7, causing landslides and flooding. The country's authorities say it left 281 people dead and 67 missing. A Vietnamese government official expressed gratitude for the swift and valuable support from the government and people of Japan. Japanese Ambassador Ito Naoki said Japan wants to show through its support that a friend in need is a friend indeed. Other countries, including the United States, Australia and South Korea, have also pledged support for Vietnam.
