Trump, Biden power ahead in Super Tuesday races, Haley wins Vermont NHK

Results are pouring in from Super Tuesday's election primary races in the United States. Voters in 16 states are choosing their party's candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

Former US President Donald Trump has swept nearly all Republican contests paving the way for a face-off with President Joe Biden in November.

In Palm beach, Florida, Trump said: "This was amazing, amazing. I had an amazing day. It's been an incredible period of time in our country's history."

Referring to Biden, Trump said: "He's the worst president in the history of our country. There's never been anything like what's happening to our country."

According to ABC News, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley clinched a projected win in Vermont, her only win so far besides Washington D.C.

Haley's campaign says it is "honored" to have received the support of millions of Americans across the country, including in Vermont."

Super Tuesday is expected to add pressure on Haley to end her bid to become the Republican nominee for president.

The Democrats are also holding their primaries or caucuses in 15 states and one territory. Biden won in 15 states but lost in American Samoa.

In a statement reacting to the Republican race, Biden said: "Tonight's results leave the American people with a clear choice. Are we going to keep moving forward or will we allow Donald Trump to drag us backwards into the chaos, division and darkness that defined his term in office?"
