Leaders of groups of atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki have called on US President Donald Trump to visit their cities. The head of a group in Hiroshima, Sakuma Kunihiko, said in an NHK interview on Tuesday that Trump has been stressing his America First policy in his speeches. Sakuma expressed concern, saying the new US leader does not appear to be interested in deepening friendship with other countries. He also said he wants to urge the president to work for nuclear disarmament, so that such weapons can be abolished. He added that he wants Trump to visit Hiroshima to learn about the suffering caused by the atomic bombings. Kawano Koichi, who heads a group of atomic bomb survivors in Nagasaki, told NHK that he is deeply concerned about the future of the world including the United States and Japan. Kawano said he wants Trump to visit Nagasaki and Hiroshima and see what took place there 80 years ago. He also said he wants Trump to know that many people are still suffering from the effects of the bombings. He added that visiting the bomb sites may change Trump's way of thinking.
