Tropical Storm Peipah leaves 24 wounded in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan NHK

Tropical Storm Peipah has left 24 people wounded and 40 houses damaged in four municipalities in Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan.



The prefectural government and local police are confirming details of the damage.



Early on Friday afternoon, the city government in Makinohara received reports of tiles being blown off roofs by strong winds, utility poles collapsing and other incidents.



The local metrological office said the prefecture was covered by developed rain clouds at that time as the tropical storm approached the region. Damage from wind gusts has also been confirmed in Kakegawa and Yaizu cities, and Yoshida Town in the prefecture.



Local police said an agricultural green house was blown away by strong winds in Yaizu City, leaving a farmer in his 40s with a severe facial fracture.



The most harm to humans occurred in Makinohara. The city government said three people were severely wounded while 20 others sustained light injuries.



The wind is also believed to have damaged many houses there. The prefectural government said that in the city, six houses were completely destroyed while 34 other houses were partially damaged as of 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
