The World Economic Forum will open its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, on Monday with the slogan "Cooperation in a fragmented world."

About 2,700 people from governments, businesses and civic society will take part in the meeting to be held from Monday through Friday.

Among them are more than 50 political leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Participants are expected to discuss the impact on the world economy of the US-China standoff and Russia's invasion of Ukraine. They are also expected to exchange views on what can be done to put the economy back on the globalization track.

Climate change and other issues that require international cooperation are likely to be major topics.

The coronavirus pandemic forced the World Economic Forum to hold its annual meeting online in 2021 and postponed the event of last year until May.
