Health ministry confirms 7,044 new COVID cases in Tokyo on Monday NHK

Japan's health ministry says it confirmed 7,044 new cases of the coronavirus in Tokyo on Monday, up 1,656 from a week ago.

The daily tally has marked a week-on-week increase for seven straight days.

The ministry also confirmed 18 deaths in the capital.

The number of seriously ill patients who are on ventilators or ECMO heart-lung machines remained unchanged from Sunday at 15.

Nationwide, 62,336 new infections and 127 deaths were confirmed on Monday.
