Zelenskyy slams NATO for not being ready for Ukraine's membership NHK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has complained about ongoing discussions at the NATO summit, saying its members are apparently not ready to let Ukraine join the alliance.

Zelenskyy posted a message on social media on Tuesday that he was now on his way to Vilnius in Lithuania, which is hosting the NATO summit.

He wrote that he "received signals that certain wording is being discussed without Ukraine."

He said the wording is about an "invitation" for Ukraine to become a NATO member and not about his country's membership in the alliance.

He said it would be "unprecedented and absurd" if a time frame is not set either for the invitation or for Ukraine's membership.

Zelenskyy said "it seems there is no readiness" to make Ukraine a member of the alliance, arguing that this motivates Russia to "continue its terror."

The president stated that he will openly discuss this matter at the summit.
